Medium Chain Triglycerides Monograph

چکیده

Description Medium chain triglycerides (MCTs) are a class of lipids in which three saturated fats are bound to a glycerol backbone. What distinguishes MCTs from other triglycerides is the fact that each fat molecule is between six and twelve carbons in length. MCTs are a component of many foods, with coconut and palm oils being the dietary sources with the highest concentration of MCTs. MCTs are also available as a dietary supplement.

Effect of Medium-Chain Triglycerides on Gene Expression of ATP-Citrate Lyase and H3K27ac in Developing Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease in an Animal Model

Background and purpose: Increase in ATP-dependent Citrate Lyase (ACLY) is observed in individuals with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). One of the compounds considered for the prevention of fatty liver is Medium chain triglycerides (MCT). In this study, the preventive effect of MCT on ACLY enzyme gene expression and the level of histone 3 lysine 27 acetylation (H3K27ac) were investigat...

Effect of equimolar amounts of long-chain triglycerides and medium-chain triglycerides on small-bowel transit time in humans.

BACKGROUND The use of medium-chain triglycerides in diets is limited by the frequent occurrence of diarrhea or crampy abdominal pain. Because these symptoms may result from an accelerated transit time induced by medium-chain triglycerides, we investigated the effect of equimolar amounts of long-chain triglycerides and medium-chain triglycerides on small-bowel transit time in 10 healthy subjects...

Inhibition of gastrin-stimulated gastric acid secretion by medium-chain triglycerides and long-chain triglycerides in healthy young men.

Long-chain triglycerides inhibit gastric acid secretion, but the effect of medium-chain triglycerides in humans is unknown. We compared the effects of intraduodenally perfused saline, medium-chain and long-chain triglycerides on gastrin-stimulated gastric acid secretion and cholecystokinin release. Eight healthy male volunteers participated in this study. Gastrin-stimulated gastric acid output ...

The eVects of short term lipid infusion on plasma and hepatic bile lipids in humans

Background—Patients on parenteral nutrition have an increased incidence of gall bladder sludge and gallstone disease, thought to be related to bile stasis. Intravenous lipid emulsions, especially those containing medium chain triglycerides, have also been shown to have a lithogenic eVect on the composition of bile in the gall bladder. Aims—To determine whether lipid infusion influences hepatic ...
